Meet
Dr. Toaff
Dr.
Michael Toaff
is an internationally
recognized reproductive
endocrinologist
and gynecologist.
His areas of
expertise include:
ovarian dysfunction,
sex steroid
biochemistry,
pelvic infectious
diseases, imaging
of the reproductive
system, and
intratubal insemination
for refractory
infertility
of female or
male origin.
Dr. Toaff's
renowned surgical
skills include:
microsurgery
for tubal reconstruction;
advanced laparoscopic
and hysteroscopic
surgery; and
major pelvic
reconstructive
surgery, most
notably myomectomy,
surgical treatment
of adenomyosis
without hysterectomy,
pelvic reconstruction
in the treatment
of chronic PID,
and advanced
endometriosis.
Dr. Toaff also
specializes
in total reconstruction
of the pelvic
floor (without
hysterectomy)
in the treatment
of uterine and
vaginal prolapse..
Dr. Toaff received his
medical degree from the
Hebrew University-Hadassah
Medical School in Jerusalem,
Israel in 1968. He completed
a residency in Obstetrics
and Gynecology at Hakiryah
Maternity Hospital of
Tel Aviv University; in
addition he received his
Master's degree in medical
sciences. In 1980 he completed
a fellowship in reproductive
endocrinology and infertility
at the Hospital of the
University of Pennsylvania
in Philadelphia. He has
served as the Director
of the OB/GYN residency
program and was Associate
Professor of Obstetrics
and Gynecology at Hahnemann
University in Philadelphia
until 1998. A diplomat
of the American Board
of Obstetrics and Gynecology,
Dr. Toaff is a member
of several medical societies
including the American
Society of Reproductive
Medicine and the prestigious
Endocrine Society.
In his private practice,
Dr. Toaff has achieved
national prominence with
his success in uterine-sparing
myomectomy. He has operated
on many women from the
U.S. and abroad, who seek
his care because of his
experience in preserving
the uterus in difficult
cases with a very low
incidence of complications.
Dr. Toaff has lectured
around the world and published
extensively in the fields
of reproductive endocrinology
and gynecology, authoring
or co-authoring over 50
articles in peer-reviewed
journals and numerous
book chapters. Recently,
he published his experience
with intratubal insemination
(ITI) in the leading journal
Fertility and Sterility.
ITI, in Dr. Toaff's hands,
achieved pregnancy rates
comparable to GIFT (gamete
intrafallopian transfer),
without laparoscopy or
anesthesia, with no complications
and at about one-fourth
of the cost of GIFT.
Dr. Toaff is married to
Dr. Anna Lev-Toaff, MD,
Professor of Radiology
at the University
of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. They
have four children and
live in Merion, Pennsylvania.
